As one of the most rapidly aging counties in the U.S., Delaware County, PA, will face a shortage of Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) by 2030. To face the shortage, Delaware County Technical School (DCTS) Licensed Practical Nursing Program, hired the services of Communication Solutions to increase enrollment for the fall of 2022.

The campaign targeted anyone in Delaware County between the ages of 18-50 interested in becoming an LPN. Criteria for the target audience also included people who were CNAs, EMTs, nursing home employees, or students graduating from the county’s 15 feeder high schools with interest in a career in healthcare.

The campaign revolved around organizing and promoting a June Open House on Zoom, and included the following:

  • Video production on new Sim Lab and video testimonials
  • Postcard and email invites for event
  • Press releases
  • Social media management and ad campaign
  • Development of Open House PowerPoint presentation
  • Presentation run-through to ensure flow, timing and best public speaking practices

RESULTS

Before DCTS Licensed Practical Nursing Program’s marketing campaign began, the program had an average class size of 18 students, significantly below capacity.

Through our efforts, 118 prospective students registered for the June Open House, and over 20 attendees submitted an admissions application. Ultimately, 41 new students registered and came to campus in September of 2022 as Class 62, more than doubling their class size.
