The Communication Solutions Group is pleased to announce that it has received a Pepperpot Award from the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA), Philadelphia Chapter. Its recognition in the category of Communication Relations was based on the goal of increased enrollment for Delaware County Technical Schools’ (DCTS) Licensed Practical Nursing Program’s Fall 2022 class.

“We were honored to win an award for our work with DCTS’s LPN Program,” said Communication Solutions President Leza Raffel. “I’m very proud of all our team members whose hard work landed us this award, but more importantly resulted in more students enrolled in the program and ultimately more LPNs in the region.”

To begin 2022, Communication Solutions produced and edited video that highlighted the program through student testimonials, as well as a video titled “Scenes from the Sim Lab.” The program’s Simulation Lab gives students quick-thinking and problem-solving opportunities in a mock hospital setting that helps reinforce topics learned inside the classroom. Promotion included production and editing of videos and a press release that was published in local media.

Communication Solutions organized a June 1 virtual Open House for the LPN Program, and promoted the event through content and materials aimed to increase awareness of the program’s benefits and features.

As the Open House neared, Communication Solutions promoted it through an EventBrite invitation page, a press release published in local media that highlighted the program, as well as a postcard and social media campaign that targeted potential candidates in and near Delaware County. Through Communication Solutions’ efforts, 118 prospective students registered for the Open House, and over 20 attendees submitted an admissions application. Ultimately, 41 new students registered and began attending classes in September 2022, more than double the program’s average class size.

Communication Solutions worked with DCIU to ensure the Virtual Open House was engaging and ran smoothly. Videos of the Simulation Lab, student testimonials and the Georgetown University video were all incorporated, and a PowerPoint presentation was created for presenters as was a Run of Show document to ensure flow, timing and best public speaking practices. Communication Solutions also secured three presenters on the panel from local healthcare facilities, one who is a recent graduate of the LPN program.

“It feels great to help DCIU increase its enrollment numbers, especially in a field that is expecting a shortage over the next several years,” said Communication Solutions PR Specialist Michael Berman, who worked on the campaign.

Held annually, the PRSA Pepperpot Awards recognizes the best PR campaigns, tactics and professionals in the Philadelphia region. This year’s event was held on Dec. 6 at The Lucy in Philadelphia.
